Re: [cp-global] plan for shutting down the iceland domain in may 2027

Hi! Thanx for keeping the mailing list alive, even with so little activity (I have a few of those myself).

While I'd like to see the cryptoparty.is mailing list migrated, there is so little traffic that I doubt it's worth the effort. So I vote "No" to migration, if only to end a fellow SysAdmin's suffering.

Also "No" to Matrix. I've never been able to get Matrix working on any of my computers - I collect other people's castoff computers, and frankenbuild them into old, slow, under-resourced but working computers. Most of them haven't been able to run any Matrix graphical clients.

And while I'm running an XMPP server, it's drowning in technical debt and I think I'm more likely to shut it down than fix it.

So, thank you for renewing cryptoparty.is, and for giving us all the opportunity to discuss its future!

Hello,

I would like to cancel the domain cryptoparty.is because it is expensive. It was just renewed last week, so we almost one year to migrate away from it.

I have also control of the cryptoparty.org domain, so potentially we could change the mailinglist to run on the .org domain.

Nevertheless, because there is very little activity, I'd like to ask:
Do we still need this list?

Instead of the mailing list, would it be a good alternative to run a cryptoparty Matrix channel instead? If that makes sense, and if there is agreement, we could announce the channel on this list and a couple of well known people of the cryptoparty community could get admin rights for the channel.

Even if it turns out that the mailing lists are no longer necessary, I'm willing to keep the web page for cryptoparty.org alive.

I think we shouldn't allow anyone to grab .org and host advertising on it.

For the .is web page I'm not sure it's worth the effort. While the domain is still alive during the next 11 months, we could host a page on it that says  "the cryptoparty.is domain will be shut down in May 2027, please link to cryptoparty.org instead" that might be sufficient?

Let me know what you think.

Best Regards,
The admin of of cryptparty.org and cryptoparty.is

PS: There are a few other low volume mailing lists operating on this domain, they will have to be covered to.
