Helping people can only be encouraged, I agree. What absolutely cannot be 
encouraged is something like Liste der Kryptoparties in Deutschland. And that 
without asking.


What are the facts:

1) On September, 22nd this year the federal parliament ("Bundestag") will be 
elected. In other words: The election campaigns are running. For months the 
polls have been showing the Pirate party at about half the share they need to 
become part of the parliament.

2) The Pirate party's wiki is of rather low quality on my special subject 
OpenPGP. Or rather: It was until I (say: the other party, LOL) repaired that.

3) (Not only) The press has been making fun of this party being so silent now 
that PRISM and so on give us so much public attention.

4) The site is more or less empty except for the event list. It seems to me 
that the domain has been registered a few days ago.

5) The Pirate party in the biggest German state (NRW, where they are part of 
the parliament) is looking for a "commissioner for cryptofoo":

I have not applied for this (volunteer) job but offered my support. No 
reaction.

My interpretation: The Pirate party does not seriously contribute to the 
project (yet). They have been expected to do something like that for years. 
Either they haven't or nobody has noticed (in that case the bad wiki would be 
even stranger). They do this in a time of both election campaigning and big 
public interest in the work of OTHERS. And now they snitch the name. There is 
no reason to believe that they have planned to do this for a long time. There 
is no reason to believe that they would have done this without the media 
interest in events by the label Cryptoparty.

This is ridiculous. German TV will visit my courses next week. We will talk 
about that.


The second part: What are the criteria for the Cryptoparty community how to 
handle this? As I understood this up to now this is a politically neutral 
project. Some people are affected others are put off if a certain party does 
something. In practice I don't give a ... about politicians any more but in 
theory I want all parties (and other organizations) to support this approach. 
But they won't if it seems connected to a certain party. If this connection 
causes damage to the label Cryptoparty how is the Pirate party going to repair 
that after they have been wiped away in the election? Not at all, of course. 
Was nothing but an election campaigning joke.

If the Pirate party had done a major part of the work for this project then 
this would have to be judged differently. But for how long are they going to 
do this? After the election, you know.

To put it differently: The only reason Cryptopartys exist (at least in 
Germany) is the total failure of the Pirate party in this area over years. 
They have been talking about that all the time. What have they done? But now. 
What a coincidence.


There is a certain risk to disgruntle people who really contribute.
